Our talented students from the Global Innovation School recently showcased their incredible skills at a series of music festivals, demonstrating immense dedication and perseverance. Their journey, which began at the local level, has now led them to the national stage.
The road to the national competition started at the Butere Sub-County festival, where our students excelled in a wide array of categories, from cultural dances and poetry to instrumental performances. We were particularly proud to see them incorporate French and German poetry, highlighting their impressive versatility.
After outstanding performances, our teams advanced to the Kakamega County competition. From there, several competitors moved on to the Regional level, achieving remarkable results:
Indian Dance: Placed an impressive 2nd out of 12.
Solo Violin, Keyboard, and Orchestra Group: All placed an impressive 2nd.
This was Kijana’s first time participating in Western instrumental categories, and our students truly raised the bar. They outperformed schools with a long history in these competitions, a testament to the discipline and hard work our students embody—skills that benefit them far beyond the music hall.
At the recently concluded Regional Music Festival Competition in Kaimosi, Vihiga County, our students continued to shine, representing Kakamega County with immense pride. The top two competitors in each category earned direct entry to the National Festival, making their achievements even more remarkable.
Here’s how they performed:
Orchestra Group: Placed 2nd out of 5, advancing to the National level.
Primary Solo Violin – Kasandra: Achieved an incredible 1st place out of 7, advancing to the National level.
Keyboard – David Kings: Secured 2nd place out of 5, advancing to the National level.
Violin Solo Junior School – Amelia Mayarah: Placed 2nd out of 7, advancing to the National level.
Indian Dance: Placed 7th out of 14.
Trumpet Junior – Fredrick Awour: Placed 5th out of 10.
Beyond the performances, our students also participated in enriching activities like chess, knitting, and reading, organized by the Kenya Institute Curriculum Development (KICD). These experiences were invaluable for their overall development.
Our journey continues! Kijana will now join other top teams in representing the entire Western region at the National Festival Competition in Meru County. This is a significant undertaking, as the journey from Sabatia Butere to Meru is approximately 546 kilometers.
Music education at the Global Innovation School is about so much more than just notes and instruments. It’s about fostering cognitive development, creativity, and discipline. It teaches our students to set goals, manage their time, and work tirelessly towards their objectives. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on their progress at the National Festival.
