Dwayne Annointed, one of our PP1 (pre-primary 1) students, who took first place in the regional national music competition, will be performing the poem, Kata in Eldoret in early August. He was also first position in the county and subcounty competitions. Kata is a Kiswahili word that means “cutting” and the poem is about a youth who asks his mom to cut his nails as they are too long. The poem is a set (assigned) poem in the Kenyan primary schools. Kakamega County had 883 public primary schools and 253 private primary schools in 2014. Ten years later, the numbers must be significantly higher. There were over 550,000 primary students in the county at that time as well. In 2022, there were 32,469 primary schools in Kenya (public and private). So, this is quite an accomplishment, and we are very proud of him, all our students who have competed this year in the national music festival, and all the teachers who worked diligently to prepare them for success.

We recently acquired a variety of additional musical instruments (see below), expanding the opportunities for our students in terms of the arts.
